‘Toxic Masculinity’ (2021)

Acrylic, mixed media and collage on canvas

100 x 100cm
Toxic Masculinity is an extension of Gendered Spaces (2020), critiquing the role flowers play in definitions of feminine and masculine, whilst questioning: what if masculinity could look like this? what does masculinity look like? At the same time, I have allowed myself to experiment with materials, mixed media and collage, whilst incorporating this process of decay, through drip-like characteristics.

‘97%’ (2021)

Acrylic, mixed media and collage on canvas

100 x 100cm
On the 3rd March 2021, Sarah Everard disappeared in South London. She went missing after leaving a friend’s house near Clapham Common. She was just walking home. ‘97%’ is an abstract expression of the bunches of flowers laid at Sarah’s vigil. The painting sets out to highlight the contrast of the delicateness and fragility of the flowers in opposition to the pure act of violence taken against Sarah that night.
